Recently, a young lady came into the Hendricks County center and indicated on the intake form that she was “undecided”. But in reality, she was ready to have an abortion.

As she sat down with the center director, she explained that she never thought that she would have an abortion until now. She said that her boyfriend would leave her if she was pregnant. They were recent college graduates and “not ready to have a baby.” He stated that he only wanted to have a baby after they were married. The pressure of this boyfriend of 2+ years leaving had her leaning toward what would have been unthinkable before. A positive pregnancy test confirmed that the decision was real.

The center director convinced her to get an ultrasound. Her first appointment was too early to get an image but still crucial in timing. The boyfriend came with her and began to hear the words of encouragement and compassion that the young woman had received in the counseling room. This was important because they were scheduled for an abortion that week. They decided to wait for a second ultrasound.

The boyfriend came along for the second ultrasound as well, and with the image of their child in front of him, his stance was beginning to soften. At the same time her resolve was strengthening. She said that she “made it clear” that she was “keeping the baby!”

Listen to her words:
“I’m really grateful that you guys are out there. I’m glad to have somebody there and I think the services that your centers are offering are the only reason my boyfriend is considering anything (something other than abortion or leaving her).”

Every day, women who are ‘not the abortion type’ have abortions because of the pressure and lack of support they feel. For over 30 years, Life Centers has been on the frontlines, compassionately supporting these women, men and children in their greatest time of need.
